Coronavirus pandemic accelerates adoption of care navigation and virtual triage tech for hospitals, health insurers
New York, NY – Clearstep Health, the care navigation and virtual triage platform, today announced a $1.3 million pre-seed round with participation from RRE Ventures, Newark Venture Partners, and OCA Ventures. Clearstep matches patients to the best in-network care for their symptoms, using a conversational interface to route patients to nearby care resources, provide possible causes, allow them to schedule an appointment, and give them OTC medicine and home care advice. Clearstep has deployed its technology with leading health systems and insurers to millions of patients and members.
Adeel Malik, Co-Founder and CEO of Clearstep, said, “The realities of the last few months have reinvigorated us to pursue radical change in healthcare. In light of the challenges the pandemic has surfaced, we’ve seen new and widespread recognition by healthcare organizations of the value in novel care navigation solutions like Clearstep. Our team is tremendously excited to continue transforming how consumers are able find and access the right care, and are thrilled to further accelerate our progress with the backing of such great investors.”
Adapting its existing technology, Clearstep recently launched a digital COVID-19 screener with Hartford HealthCare in Connecticut and BayCare Health in Florida. Clearstep screens for other illnesses that could be producing similar symptoms to COVID-19, a function that has helped unburden overcrowded hospitals. Clearstep’s screener is free to use, does not require an account, and can instantly connect concerned patients to telemedicine providers. Try it here.
Jason Black and Raju Rishi from RRE’s investment team commented, “Navigating the maze of modern healthcare has only grown more complex over the years—it’s a major barrier to both a great patient experience as well as positive health outcomes. Once we saw how Clearstep dramatically simplified that daunting proposition, providing a quick, clear, and natural interface for patients to navigate to the care they need, we knew Adeel and his team were building something special. We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of their journey.”
Digital health and virtual care solutions like Clearstep saw an increased rate of adoption at the height of the pandemic, but utilization will likely become the new normal in the post-COVID 19 era as patients grow accustomed to more convenient methods for accessing care.
With growing customer demand and consumer utilization of Clearstep technology, 2020 and 2021 are expected to be tremendously high growth years for Clearstep. The team will be focused on expanding product development initiatives and furthering business development, and will be hiring towards those objectives.
