GigXR, Inc. and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) have collaborated to launch the “HoloScenarios: Gastrointestinal” module. This innovative module aims to better equip medical and nursing students in diagnosing and treating acute gastrointestinal diseases using hyperrealistic holographic simulated patients and equipment.

The HoloScenarios application moves beyond traditional virtual reality (VR) training by leveraging mixed reality (MR) to simulate the entire patient journey. This unique approach integrates branching logic, allowing for a diverse range of learning experiences. It enables students to practice everything from gathering medical history to conducting invasive tests and emergency procedures.

Associate Professor Alfred Kow Wei Chieh from NUS Medicine highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Gastrointestinal pathologies can be complex and challenging to diagnose. This module will allow learners to form a deeper understanding and appreciation of the gastrointestinal tract.” Prof. Kow, with his rich background in medical education, believes that “mixed reality is the next evolution in healthcare training.”

In terms of realistic training, HoloScenarios: Gastrointestinal offers a level of immersion that VR alone can’t achieve. The module blends hyper-realistic holograms with actual physical spaces, simulating real-world clinical environments.

Dr. Gao Yujia from Singapore’s National University Health System emphasized the significance of such training methods: “In healthcare, educators are not only trying to help learners master and retain vital knowledge, but recall and apply it when a patient’s life may be at risk.”

GigXR’s CEO, Jared Mermey, expressed his pride in the partnership with NUS Medicine, noting that the collaboration is set to advance clinical approaches in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal diseases.

David King Lassman, GigXR’s Founder, praised the platform’s evolution. He said, “The Gig Immersive Learning Platform has quickly become the premier educational social network for sharing healthcare training expertise in the immersive format.”

The collaboration with NUS Medicine sees GigXR continuing its global partnerships, including institutions like the University of Cambridge and the University of Michigan. The new module is another feather in the cap of the company’s ever-growing portfolio of holographic healthcare training modules.
