Viseon Inc., a provider in visualization technology for minimally invasive spine surgery, announces the first clinical use of the next generation of the MaxView™ System for Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion (OLIF™). Viseon MaxView System provides the surgeon with high definition, intraoperative visualization of the surgical field on a head’s up monitor display that is unobstructed by surgeon hands or instruments. This device includes integrated LED light guides that improve illumination of the surgical field to produce a high-resolution image for the surgeon and entire OR staff. The new LED light guides have adjustable intensity levels to provide the optimal amount of lighting required depending on the depth of the anatomy and may reduce procedural cost by eliminating the need for third-party light guides. MaxView is the only technology that offers surgeons a single-use, ergonomic visualization solution with the depth of field and illumination required for minimally invasive lateral procedures.

Richard Hynes, MD, FACS, Orthopedic Spine Surgeon at The B.A.C.K. Center in Melbourne, FL, is the first surgeon to use the next generation MaxView System for OLIF™. Dr. Hynes commented, “The new MaxView camera provided excellent visualization and was easy to integrate into the OLIF procedure. The dedicated lighting is crucial for access and visualization throughout the procedure, so this is a significant technological advancement over the previous generation. With the current trend moving toward more minimally invasive procedures, the next generation of surgeons need to be proficient in minimally invasive spine procedures. The ability to see the procedure in real-time, with high-intensity lighting, magnification and high definition, is meaningful for teaching and may have a great impact on surgeon learning. This technology may assist in reducing surgical complications and improve safety during surgeon training. The OR staff is also more engaged, facilitating teamwork and greater efficiencies.”

Zazie Peltier, Viseon Director of Marketing stated, “The use of MaxView may lead to more rapid adoption and a safer learning curve for young surgeons training in minimally invasive lateral lumbar surgery. The rapid evolution of the MaxView System is yet another milestone Viseon has attained and demonstrates Viseon’s ability to offer surgeons the capability to quickly evolve and meet the demands of improved patient care.”
