GREENBRAE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–MarinHealth today announced the launch of a new electronic health record system called APeX, the UCSF version of EPIC, the largest and most widely used medical record system in the world.

APeX, which stands for Advancing Patient-Centered Excellence, is an integrated platform that helps to create a seamless experience through a patient’s entire health journey, whether they are being cared for in a MarinHealth Medical Network clinic or at MarinHealth Medical Center. Providers in the clinic and hospital setting can access patient records, helping them to make more informed decisions related to the diagnosis and treatment plan. The new APeX platform will improve operational and clinical workflows to achieve the highest clinical outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and reduce administrative time.

As part of the APeX system, patients will have convenient, digital access to all their health information in one place through MyChart, a patient portal. Patients can access test results, appointments, and health information, and they can message their doctors using the app on their phone or computer.

“Having access to consolidated medical records across different clinical areas will improve care when patients are referred to various specialists or other ancillary services at all MarinHealth locations,” commented David Klein, MD, MarinHealth Medical Center’s chief executive officer. “All providers and organizations using Epic can easily exchange patient data, which will greatly improve patient care. Providers also will have the ability to coordinate care with doctors outside of MarinHealth who serve their patients and their families, closing care gaps and reducing duplication. This integrated system furthers the MarinHealth mission to be the destination for health and healing in the North Bay.”

“We are committed to providing high-quality care and an exceptional patient experience for our patients and communities,” said Karin Shavelson, MD, MarinHealth Medical Center’s chief medical officer. “This technology helps to create a seamless experience in a patient’s entire health journey, and it helps our providers to immediately access the information they need to care for their patients. The APeX system will provide quicker access to information, which means less time looking for patient documents and more time providing care.”

“MarinHealth and UCSF Health’s strategic alliance was formed to further improve the quality of care and patient experience for the communities we jointly serve. We are committed to further developing clinical programs that advance our shared vision,” said Shelby Decosta, President UCSF Health Affiliates Network. “The addition of APeX at MarinHealth Medical Center establishes critical technology infrastructure that will help us in delivering exceptional patient care, while providing a secure entry point for both patients and providers that protects patients’ privacy.”
