Halifax-based performance and health data firm expands as part of global leader in motion sensors and Internet of Moving Things (IoMT)
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kinduct is pleased to announce it has been acquired by mCube, the US-based company behind the smallest motion sensors in the world and a technology leader enabling the Internet of Moving Things (IoMT). The acquisition opens the door for Kinduct’s data consolidation and visualization engine to move beyond human performance into new biomechanical and digital health markets.
“Joining mCube, an established Silicon Valley technology leader, is a great opportunity for the Kinduct team to expand globally,” said Dr. Travis McDonough, CEO and Founder of Kinduct. “mCube’s broadly-adopted sensor fusion solutions will integrate seamlessly with our cloud-based Athlete Management System to provide deep insights to help optimize athletic performance for professionals as well as consumers.”
The deal comes as Halifax-based Kinduct celebrates its ten-year anniversary as a leader in data aggregation and visualization for human performance, health and injury data. The company’s Athlete Management System (AMS)—which collects data from external sources and automates certain reporting and alerts regarding human body performance and well-being—is used by over 550 teams, leagues, athletic associations, performance centers, military and healthcare organizations around the world to optimize human performance and identify increased risk for injury. Clients include dozens of NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB teams, as well as Gatorade, Olympic sports associations, and enterprise healthcare partners.
The acquisition positions Kinduct for rapid growth and expansion by immediately leveraging mCube’s international sales and support teams that are strategically located in the United States, Netherlands, India, and China. Founded in 2009, mCube is headquartered in San Jose, California and is happy to welcome Kinduct to its ranks of international subsidiary companies that includes Xsens, a leader in 3D motion tracking technology that already integrates with the Kinduct platform.
“We are confident that the combination of mCube, Kinduct, and Xsens brings together a powerful mix of hardware and software for the IoMT market,” said Ben Lee, CEO of mCube. “The addition of Kinduct to mCube’s group of companies will accelerate our SaaS offering with exciting tools to help sports and health users to improve and maintain their wellbeing.”
Kinduct was founded in 2010 and spent its early years in the healthcare industry, educating and engaging patients through patient-centric 3D medical animations and rehab programming. Kinduct quickly found that their customers needed better software tools to consolidate and visualize the tsunami of data in human performance and elite sport environments. Today, the Kinduct platform is used by performance staff around the world in professional, collegiate and Olympic sports as a tool to consolidate athlete data and surface actionable insights to extend the boundaries of human performance and wellness.
“Becoming part of mCube is the next logical step in the evolution of our business and allows Kinduct to be part of a truly global team that plays in new and exciting fields,” said Travis McDonough, who will continue to lead the Kinduct team. “This startup exit is evidence of the tremendous value being created within the Atlantic Canadian startup ecosystem.”
For Kinduct, this acquisition is a significant milestone along the continuum of moving from an early stage startup company based in Halifax to part of an international technology company working with customers and partners around the world.
