NASHVILLE, Tenn. & AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Iron Path Capital, a private equity firm focused on healthcare and specialty industrials, today announced its partnership with an affiliate of Capitol Pain Institute (CPI), an interventional pain management provider, to create a physician-led consolidation platform focused on delivering the highest quality care for patients with chronic pain.
CPI offers a broad range of services with an emphasis on advanced interventional pain management, including spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, interspinous stabilization and fixation and posterior SI joint fusion. With clinics and ambulatory surgical centers across Texas, Ohio and Kentucky, CPI is focused on expanding its quality patient care across the West and Midwest to build a leading national platform.
“At Iron Path Capital, we partner with mountain climbers – leaders who share our vision to scale with passion and purpose,” said Iron Path Capital co-founder Rob Reistetter. “We have been impressed with the world-class practice Dr. Schocket has built, and we look forward to working together to continue his history of clinical excellence. We see the opportunity to build on the success of CPI to create a national platform in a sector that provides crucial, humane care to some of the most in-need patient populations.”
Chronic pain is a massive and growing issue in the United States. Over 110 million Americans experience chronic pain, more than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. The opioid crisis has placed an increased emphasis on non-opioid treatment modalities that are highly effective and better for the well-being of patients and society.
CPI Founder and President Matt Schocket, M.D. said: “I partnered with Iron Path Capital because of their track record of scaling healthcare businesses through acquisition and operating expertise. We share a goal of building the premier interventional pain management platform in the United States. Pain management is becoming increasingly recognized by payors and primary care as an essential specialty. With growing innovation, awareness and adoption, now is an ideal time to embrace consolidation. Iron Path Capital’s investment accelerates our ability to bring together the best team of physicians providing integrated, holistic care.”
CPI will expand its national footprint by affiliating with independent pain management practices and building de novo clinics and ambulatory surgical centers. The platform intends to support corporate functions at affiliated practices, thereby allowing physicians to focus on best serving their patients, local communities and the scientific community. CPI is actively building its network of top clinicians who are interested in joining a physician-led platform.
Jasmine Chen, a principal at Iron Path Capital, noted: “We have seen various business models across the interventional pain management industry, and we believe that building a leader of scale requires supporting what works at each practice in each region. We are starting with Dr. Schocket and his team because they have the key elements we would like to see shared across all our affiliated practices: a commitment to compliance, patient outcomes, data-driven decision-making and flexible collaboration. We look forward to building the best platform for patients and providers.”
The transaction represents the third platform investment completed by Iron Path Capital since its founding last year, and the first platform investment in Iron Path Fund I, L.P.
CPI was advised by Brown Gibbons Lang & Company.
