Implementation of Targeted Medication Warnings, workflows to support drug-gene pair decision support, and interface of discrete genomic data into the EMR will be presented
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DecisionSupport–FDB (First Databank, Inc.), the leading provider of drug and medical device knowledge that helps healthcare professionals make precise decisions, announced that Donald Levick, MD, MBA, CPE, FHIMSS and Shannon Fenstermacher, PharmD, from Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) will present an overview of the work being done on targeted clinical decision support and pharmacogenomics leveraging FDB’s Targeted Medication Warnings. The session, Implementing PGx in Practice: It Takes More Than Genes, will take place on Friday, March 13, 2020, from 10:45 – 11:45 am during HIMSS20.
FDB Targeted Medication Warnings provide a “patient-first” approach to medication decision support that leverages additional patient inputs—such as lab results, genomic markers, and clinical scoring within the EHR to identify only the patients at greatest risk. Alerts will only interrupt the clinician workflow when the additional data inputs confirm that it is pertinent to the patient. This results in clinical guidance that is more meaningful and actionable, presented at the right time in the workflow. Traditional knowledge bases and IT systems only consider the drug, with limited clinical context identifying general risk with a drug. This new targeted approach is designed to improve the positive predictive value of alerts and clinician efficiency over current decision support methods.
FDB Targeted Medication Warnings focus on high-risk clinical scenarios such as hyperkalemia (high potassium levels), QT prolongation (heart rhythm issues), opioid use, pharmacogenomics, and more. Currently available for Epic health system customers, FDB Targeted Medication Warnings can also integrate with other technology solution providers. To learn more about our patient-first approach to medication decision support, please visit us at HIMSS20, and join us for a wine reception, Wednesday, March 11, 2020, 4:30 – 6:00 pm in booth #2559.
