Hartford, 11 February, 2020 – Digital Health CT, powered by Startupbootcamp, hosted its inaugural Demo Day themed “VeloCITY” at the Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford. The event attracted over 500 attendees and 600+ viewers on the livestream. Demo Day is the culmination and celebration of the startups three-month participation in the accelerator program.
The 10 startups showcased how applying their technology improves healthcare access, quality and safety, and the patient/customer experience, with value propositions ranging from increasing customer engagement to automating physician scribe tools and more.
This past November, the program officially kicked off the three-month accelerator program. Nine of the startups came from the United States (two founded and based in Connecticut); and the tenth was founded in Tel Aviv, Israel. Collectively since inception, the startups have raised $14.5 million.
The startups have been working with doctors, surgeons and medical teams at Hartford HealthCare and with students, faculty and staff at the University of Connecticut School of Business and Trinity College. The startups have also enjoyed local restaurants and entertainment activities in the capital city and throughout Connecticut.
“We are partnering with industry like never before– and bringing in partners who value Hartford HealthCare’s Innovation ecosystem,” said Barry Stein, a physician and chief of Clinical Innovation at Hartford HealthCare. “Our talented colleagues have become honey to bees. Entrepreneurs are incredibly eager to have such invested mentors. We are working diligently, training our physicians to better work with startup businesses, looking at development the way entrepreneurs do. Together, we are helping to move health care forward, bringing incredible ideas and technologies to life.”
Todd OBrien, CEO of Rainmaking North America (Startupbootcamp’s parent company) said, “We are seeing an increased velocity in new technology and ideas in healthcare globally. The digital health market size is expected to reach USD 509.2 billion by 2025. Innovation is accelerating and our program partners understand the importance of integrating innovation methods into their business models. The startups have had the opportunity to engage with our strong healthcare ecosystem that includes a deep investor network, broad mentor group and robust program content. Two years ago we launched Hartford InsurTech Hub in collaboration with the Hartford community and now we are building a digital health ecosystem with our partners: Hartford Healthcare, Trinity College, UConn School of Business and Launc[H]artford The journey has been truly amazing.”
